but:
Most amps I've seen have bridging instructions, either on the speaker out terminals themselves or in the manual. If you're dealing with a 2-channel amp, you'll likely be connecting one wire from the sub (assuming it's got a single voice coil) to one terminal of each channel (i.e. L+ to sub + and R- to sub -. Make sure you do it in accordance with the manufacturer's specs, though, as I imagine there's some variance.
As for the 4" openings, there's not much room with the defrost duct (I seriously doubt there's enough for a 5.25). You'd probably be better off installing 6x9s in the rear and using component speakers up front (separate mid and tweeter). That gets pricey, though.
My car (86 SPG) has a/d/s 4" two-ways up front. I had to cut the grill section out of the stock plate (they're TALL) and add more rubber gasket to keep them low enough to not rub the plate on bass response. They sound amazing, though.
