Thanks for info on EZK, I don't expect to ever have a car with it.
While I think Vince's problem is the AMM, if he can't get his hands on a loaner AMM, I think it makes sense to rule out screwy electrical issues.
The loose alternator ground connection or an intermittent internal battery issue can cause sputters and hesitation as it makes/breaks contact whether cold or warm, as can the grounds down at the crossmember and tranny(provides ground to intake). The ECU doesn't like this. This happens before constant battery voltage drops due to discharge.
