Thanks, I may not be describing the situation very well. Again having never dealt with a Saab I may not have a good "visual" picture. I'll take your word that no sealant is required. What I was getting at is that most crank pulleys slide OVER the crankshaft end that protrudes through the front cover of the engine. There is a key on the crank and a key slot on the inside diameter of the pulley. The seals ride on the outside diameter of the cramk pulleys. But since on most engines, oil is present at the crankshaft, it can also migrate between the pulley and the crankshaft. Your previous post indicates that the pulley installs INSIDE the crankshaft instead of OVER it. If that is correct, I can certainly understand the lack of a need for sealant there.

Thanks again for your advice.

PS. I was planning to do this tomorrow but my search for these parts, the two seals and the pulley has not been successful. The dealer does have the front crank seal but not the oil pump "O" ring or the pulley. My calls to other foreign parts stores render the same results. The pulley is turning out to be a dealer only item. So it looks like I will be ordering the parts from the dealer and postponing this work untill next weekend. The cost differance for the seals from the dealer in comparison to other sources in not appreciable so I will probably just get them there when I get the pulley. My daughter will just have to keep a close watch on her oil quantity for another week. Currently the leak rate is about a quart a week. Thanks again
