Congrats on becoming a SAAB owner!

I do have a few suggestions:

1) Bilstein's new shock absorber for 900 is good, offers great handling. Older one is reported to be not as good, says my mechanic, a SAAB indie, named Tom Townsend. He tells me that SAAB has changed suppliers over the years and present shock supplier for 900 old generation isn't that great. (I believe it's Tokico, but don't hold me to it.) He recommended the Bilstein's to me--sorry, don't know model number--about $65 each.

2) Either change to (or keep using if applicable) that tan-ish colored wonder liquid, the Mercedes-Benz coolant (antifreeze). If you have green antifreeze in, get rid of it. The M-B stuff is highly recommended by Tom Townsend, of Townsend Imports, and I can refer you to his short online dissertation on that subject, if interested. Let it suffice to say that is has special anticorrosion properties that your everyday "green" antifreeze doesn't--but don't be shocked to pay $12 to $14 per gallon for it. It's cheap insurance against head gasket corrosive erosion failure/other cooling system corrosion wear due to "lesser" coolants.

3) DON'T EVER JACK UP YOUR 900 BY THE REAR AXLE!!! This has, alas, been done to countless hundreds of 900s by tire-shops and mechanics who do not know what terrible havoc this wreaks to these cars. The 900 rear axle is not meant to bear the weight of the car. Using a floor jack under the rear axle bends the axle--permanently--upward, causing rear-end alignment to be thrown out of whack, causing odd tire wear that can only be cured by either bending axle back--good luck on that!--or a replacement used/new axle.

4) Be easy on your reverse gear. Here's how:
Before shifting into reverse (which isn't synchronized) shift into first (which is). This synchs the gears so the tranny doesn't grind into reverse.

5) Don't kneel on your front seats anymore than necessary. Why? Well, the heated seats don't take kindly to such abuse. Their heating elements are .025" nichrome wires, and become brittle with age. (Ask me how I know...)

6) Keep an eye on your spare tire pressure; check monthly. Well, that goes for any car, but the 900s I've come across seem especially adept at leaking down spare tire pressure, say from 60 psi to 40 psi in 2-3 months.

7) Get to know a GOOD Saab independent mechanic, not a mechanic who just works on "imports." A Toyota/Honda/Nissan isn't a SAAB, and vice versa. (I'm not saying Toyota/Honda/Nissan mechanics can't be SAAB whizzes, but those tend to be rare who can diagose Japanese AND Swedish import ills.)

8) I recommend AC Delco or Mann oil filters for SAAB.
