coolant bypass valve 101 Posted by Kevin K [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: replaced H coolant bypass valve, heat before, not more!, Mac, Fri, 6 Dec 2002 12:20:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have yet to hear a rational reason for that valve. Mabe if it had an elec pump, but it doesn't.
all coolant flow enters water pump and is sent thru engine for cooling, and finally to t-stat. cold -- non goes to rad and all goes thru manifold to heater to water pump again. very hot -- all goes thru open t-stat to rad to pump inlet, heater path is blocked. normal -- some of each happens.
if that bypass valve is closed, it's like old system.
if bypass is open, less than normal flow will go thru heater core. mabe this is just to keep someone from slowing engine heat-up by asking for max cabin heat too soon. if so, just turn the heat knob to minimum, and the heater valve will bypass the heater core for quickest engine warmup.
Sooo, just retro older model hoses, no extra bypass, and don't ask for heat too soon. that extra bypass valve creates problems.
what am i missing?
