A possibility - because you interrupted the clutch fluid feed line (unlike just pulling the slave cylinder aside to redo the clutch plate and not interrupting the fluid integrity) there's got to have been lots of air introduced, not only in the slave cylinder itself, but the line itself. Since air rises, you may have a good bit of air that made it's way up and into the master cylinder. To rid the master of air you may have to do a reverse bleed where you introduce fluid from the slave end with approx three feet of flexible clear pvc hose connected (snuggly) to the slave bleed nipple. Attach a funnel (with the proper sized small end hole so the seal is tight) to the other end of the hose and suspend it above the engine compartment (the edge of the opened hood is good). Fill the funnel and hose with clutch/brake fluid up to the funnel. Unscrew the brake/clutch fluid reservoir cap. Open the slave nipple less than a half turn. Allow gravity to cause fluid to sink down the tube and up into the reservoir (it'll happen, slowly) until it settles at the same level as the fluid reservoir. It's an effective, if slow, way to bleed the master cylinder of air.
Now for the slave cylinder: With the filled hose still attached to the open nipple - pressing the clutch pedal s l o w l y to the floor will push air within the slave cylinder out the nipple and into the hose. With the clear tubing you'll see it rise as bubbles. Then with the pedal still to the floor (do NOT let the pedal fly back at this point or you risk sucking air back into the slave cylinder from around the loosened nipple threads), either have an assistant close the nipple, or if alone keep the pedal depressed with the right sized piece of wood or pipe (I have a pole cut to the right size and wedge it between the seat and pedal) enabling you to close the nipple. Then slowly release the pedal, which draws fluid from the reservoir into the master cylinder. Reopening the slave nipple and repeating that step will pretty much ensure that the slave is free of air. When you don't see air bubbles flow out of the nipple and up the tube when you press the pedal to the floor is when you know it's good to go.
