There is a tiny spring in the ignition switch that is responsible for springing back the key. The spring has either broken or fallen out of place. I took my switch apart once and I could never figure out how to get the thing back together! They are very complicated little buggers. You can get a new one for $26 on eeuroparts.com, and its good insurance to have a new one in there.
