You CAN get this whole assembly out and clean it... but...

If you can carefully clean only the lock cylinder with alcohol, let it dry, then graphite-lubricate it, you might find happiness.

If, however, the alcohol gets in to the swtich-part, you're in more trouble than it's worth. The problem in there is that a certain amount of grease that MUST be inside that switch. Also, the alcohol will inevitably carry that grease to the areas that MUST NOT be greased.

So, cleaning can be done, and it can restore that return-spring's function, but it can be a long shot. Last note: Remember to lube the lock cylinder with a lubricant that a locksmith recommends. Graphite is the only thing I know is safe. Naturally, graphite in the switch would be a REALLY bad thing, so yet another problem in dealing with these two connected sections.


But, so long as the problem is mear gumminess, it can be cleaned, it is just challenging.
