I hear your words but my gut still knots up at the thought. Saabs used to run without an intercooler or APC you say? So? Cars also used to not have hydrolicly assisted brakes but then the engineers figured out a Better Way® of doing things. The boys in Trollhaten figured out a Better Way® of running a turbo engine and that way was not to just bolting on a turbo and say, "Have fun", a al all the little ricers with JC Whitney bolt on turbos.
If you have a donor car and enjoy being a shadetree mechanic why would you not move over everything including the APC and intercooler? If you are picking your parts from a bone yard I say you should still pickup an intercooler and the factory plumbing otherwise you'll have to custom fabricate a line to get the boosted air from the turbo to the intake manifold.
Perhaps the question shouldn't be "can I do it without the proper parts" but rather, "should I do it without the proper parts"
But either way, good luck with it.
