ok, iknow what you mean, but believe me, bass is important to me. In fact its what i do. I knew what you meant, i just disagree with the categorical statement about all the sound in front of you = best sound. Also, there are some speakers you can power off of a 9 volt battery. Very efficient. sound like sh@#t. No replacement for headroom. no matter what the salesman says. I know this sounds counterintuitive, but the best speakers need more (quality)'juice' to make them sound good. And if your 4"ers are rated for say 75 watts and your giving them 30+ they will sound great... but they could sound better. Why should all the sound come only from in front of you? As if the sound isnt already bouncing from the windsheild. And, where is the bass? All the sound from those 4"ers doesnt cut it. Also, sound comes to our ears from many directions. I really have the best and most natural listening experience -in a car, mind you- when the music sounds exactly matched front/back(i.e louder in the back because they are farther away from our ears) Since the 4"ers are so close, a little extra for the back speaks opens up the sound, and improves bass response since they are better equiped to handle it. Finally, bass frequencies are large -physically- so fading in favor of the rear gives them a chance to catch up to the higher frequency front 4"ers. BTW are you refering to saab classic 900 audio competitions? Id love to hear that.
