Without a better description of your symptoms, it will be hard to tell exactly what the problem is. For example you said the car wreaked. Of what? If it's gas, then it would seem like the engine is getting gas that's not being consumed. In which case I would lean towards some sort of electrical or ignition problem. Anyway, without writing a troubleshooting manual here, I'll tell you what you should get:
1. A Bentley manual for '85-'93 Saab 900 16 valve (see link below). This is the Saabnetter's bible. Rather expensive, but will pay for itself over and over. They are available at Saab dealers, Amazon, and some of this sites sponsors. They turn up on Ebay every now and then too. Don't waste your money on Haynes.
2. A set of Torx screwdrivers and 3/8" Torx head tips for a ratchet.
3. 3/8" metric allen head tips for a ratchet.
4. Needless to say, a decent set of metric sockets and wrenches.
5. An inexpensive continuity tester or better yet a digital volt/ohm meter.
That's the basic stuff. Hope this helps, and good luck !
