You need to determine whether they are 1)out of round, 2)tapered, and, 3)still the proper diameter for the pistons you are using. If it's in spec, just have a light hone done...it's necessary for the new piston rings to properly wear in. Minor scuffing is normal. Scoring...it depends on severity.
Are you replacing the pistons with new, or used? They're the most expensive item in the rebuild...
Better check the bearings, they got hammered too. And rods?
I've done several rebuilds, but fortunately haven't had experience with broken timing chains...
