Thanks 900 folks! God willing, I'll find no scoring in the block. If I do, I'm thinking I might invest the extra $250 or so for a shop to rebore/rehone and balance, and then install the $160 (good deal!!!!) slightly over piston set I have found at a reputable source.
For your edification, I'm pretty much only concerned with scoring here. The engine's the usual Saab-strength bottom end, which practically never wears, at least not at the 120K mark. The 91 and 92 9000 2.3 engines were susceptible to failures in the balance shaft chain area, which often (usually?) resulted in consequent failure of the timing chain when the balance shaft chain got tangled up in it. I believe that's the story here, so I have no reason to suspect any other wear in the bottom end. If I don't find scoring, sounds like at most a light honing's in order but little or nothing else. Keep your fingers crossed!
