1/2" breaker bar works with a standard socket, but when torquing the nut back on, you won't have clearance for the wrench. Little secret - I used my "grunt meter" instead of a torque wrench and fortunately haven't had any problems.
An angle grinder works very well for "altering" tools, sockets and such.
