Fuel pump - what's a reasonable repair price?

Last week, my fuel pump failed, stranding me away from home. It worked fine when I went into an evening meeting, but when I came out to start the car, it cranked fine (strong battery) but would not start. Thankfully, I wasn't left stranded out on the highway...I was suspicious in that I could not hear the fuel pump running in back...normally it has a quiet hum....
Anyway, I had it towed to my mechanic, and sure enough, it WAS the fuel pump. With the bitter cold weather this is not something I wanted to tackle myself.
The bill, with 2 hours labor was $600!!!!! Seems damn high to me!! Given the prices for fuel pumps from most of the Saabnet sponsors, my mechanic must have marked up the price of the pump itself by more than 100%.
I had my fuel pump replaced in my 90 900 a few years back and it was less than $200 including labor.
So I need some opinions from you on whether this bill amount. The only work done was replacing the fuel pump and associated gaskets.
