When the car cranks but does not start, do you see the tach bouncing ever so slightly. If not, you have an intermittent ignition problem. Check the plug on the side of the distributor. Sometimes this plug's contacts are bad and a wiggle will solve the problem. If so clean the contacts.
Saab ignitions are simple. It's probably either the ignition module over on the fender liner or the hall effect sensor inside the distributor. Less likely are a bad coil or other wiring problems.
Check for spark at coil wire and at plugs. if coil spark but none at plugs check distributor rotor for 1k ohms between the center and the tip.
If the tach bounces and you get spark, the problem is fuel related. Jump fuses 27 to 30 with engine off to check fuel pump. If it runs then the problem is in the fuel pump relay, main relay, the ECU or wiring connecting this stuff up to the injectors. Check all your grounds. Get a Bentley manual and go throught the no start troubleshooting sequence to track it down.
