Although there is no synchro in reverse, there should still be no reverse crunch if the car is right. You should be able to put the car in reverse without having to shift into another gear. If you have a new clutch and you still have crunch, either:
1) the tech did not bother to put in a new pilot bearing
2) the tech bodged the pilot bearing by jamming the clutch shaft into the bearing rather than carefully getting the shaft in while the pressure plate and disk were still loose.
3) the tech neglected to grease the splines on the clutch shaft before installation
All three are common mistakes made by pros.
Read my previous post carefully. It explains that there should be no gear movement in the trans when it is in neutral and when the clutch is disengaged(pedal on the floor). If there is no gear movement, even non-synchro reverse can be selected without crunch. crunch=movement and movement=one of the problems noted above. While not a crunch issue sometimes the gears will not be lined up to mesh and you should partially release the pedal to move the gears slightly to allow engagement.
