This is very interesting. I recently had a right front wheel bearing go bad, so I decided to do a few other things while I was in there. Wheel bearing, ball joints, brake disc, brake caliper, pads, shock, upper and lower control arm bushings, sway bar end bushing, inner and outer CV joint boots, and right motor mount. I eliminated the wheel bearing noise, but I acquired a thumping/vibration becoming evident at about 20 mph, most prominent at 40 mph, and then slightly smoothing at higher speeds. I don't feel the vibration especially in the shifter or steering wheel, but mostly through the floor boards. I then replaced the right drive shaft with a rebuilt, and when that didn't work I sprang for the new tripod bearing and outer CV joint. Then I replaced the wheel bearing again, and then the inner driver and differential output shaft bearing. I also had the front tires balanced, and then replaced them with my summer tires and rims, no luck.... One interesting fact is that I can't replicate the vibration with the wheels in the air, even if I stick the jackstands under the A-arms to load the suspension. This is starting to make me believe the origin may be in the steering rack, as I did notice that the inner tie rod end had a small amount of axial play. Because I did my upper control arm bushings I am also sure my alignment is a little out of whack, but I don't see how that could contribute to the noise, other than to accentuate the slop in the inner tie rod end perhaps by slapping the wheel back and forth. Are your symptoms as I describe, or only under heavy acceleration?
