To much work!!
The way low frequencies travel, they will sound great going through the rear hatch w/o going through the work of cutting holes. Your best bet is to wire the sub/amp up & then try numerous positions in the hatch area. You will find out that changing the position of the sub as well as which way the speaker fires will drastically change things.
this is what I would do
1) replace all OEM speakers with something that sounds good.
2) get a sub to go along with 1). I have never liked the sound of bazooka tubes, very sloppy. Try to listen to a bazooka & a conventional sub if you can & see what you think. You can get a single 6.5 or 8 in sub & buy a small enclosure for the box along with a small (25x2 RMS) amp (preferably with internal X-over).
In regards to wiring, if you have RCA cables coming out the back of the deck you are in business :o) If not, you need a line level converter (PAC SNI-35 is one) OR buy a amp which takes high level inputs.
