The clutch on a Saab needs to be depressed, right? Some cars use a steel linkage that pushes directly. Saabs use a second method. A fluid force is used to push the clutch using pressure. (This is how the brakes work too). This is known as a hydraulic clutch. It uses brake fluid in the case of the Saab, and actually if you look carefully at the base of the brake fluid reservior you will see on its passenger side a third hose. That is the hose leading to the clutch "slave cylinder". That is the thingy that pushes the clutch in and out.
What to do? Well, first, you need to replace the slave or the fluid tube if that shattered. Both give the same symptom. Then you will probably ALSO need to have the brake system bled to remove the air bubbles that got in there. If they charge more than 30 bucks for brake bleeding they are ripping you off.
Finally, you need to read http://www.twinsaabs.com and look at tranny and clutch removal instructions so that you can understand how the mechanic is trying to fix things and if and when he is trying to rip you off. Knowledge is power.
I DOUBT YOU NEED A NEW CLUTCH. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF!!!!
