U sed wire and a special tool for twisting wire on tight, kink free, and firmly, but in the past I have used the drill out the old and screw in the new technique too. Drills need to be thin. Also can use a hybrid technique which I will be using on my latest car, which is drill through, place THIN wire through, and twist wire tight. As I recall, some wires need to be drilled through at an angle so as not to interfere with inner workings of signal.
P. S. - How did you place the dimple into the white metal. I used a dremmel, but was not entirely happy with the result.
