Fuel, spark...no start

My 85' SPG was running a little rough, then mysteriously just stopped all together. The engine turns over, but won't crank..not even a little.
I traced it to what I thought was the problem. I replaced the fuel regulator - I believe the baffle went bad as fuel was flowing through the vacuum line. I have spark, and what appears to be a good fuel flow, but no luck - not even a backfire. I replaced the rotor, distributor cap and plugs at the same time, and I've tripled checked that they are in order. Pulled each plug and look down to see if fuel was flowing during attempts to crank - looked ok.
Fuel pump is working appropriately. I haven't tested the fuel pressure, but it would seem that I could at least get the engine to think about running. I know that the next step is to start from ground zero and perform all tests - fuel pressure, vacuum leak (doesn't seem like it has one), compression, etc., but I was hoping that someone might have an idea for something to check that I haven't thought of.
It's not my daily driver, but I have an eight month old who takes up more time than I used to have! Thanks in advance.
James in ATL.
