is secure - that your dist hasn't inadvertently rotated
If I may ask a basic question: how did you transfer the spark plug wires from the old to the new dist cap? You checked them...by changing one wire at a time - OR are you using a Bentley or Haynes pic?
If any doubt, suggest that you use either a timing light on #1 wire, and confirm that you're getting a flash around 0 - 5 deg BDTC on the flywheel, when turning over (disconnect vacuum advance, if there is one)
OR get the flywheel to 14 or 16? deg BDTC, pull the dist cap, and confirm that the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire dist contact
and then confirm that the rotational firing order/spark plug sequence is also correct
BillN brings up a good pt wrt the potential degrading wiring insulation - also ck the wires below the ignition console (above the heat shield!) and to your under rear seat APC
