When I had the cold start problem I had just changed the oil. I was reluctant to change the oil again. But I did and I am glad I did.
The car would not start because it was extremely cold, like -5 F. Many other cars would not start that morning so I was in good company.
In the end, I had to have the car towed to a warm garage as I was far from home and not carrying proper tools (shame on me) although it was way to cold to be working outside any way. The mechanic immediately suggested to dry the plugs and change the oil. He was right. That was the right fix.
I think what happened was this. Because it was so cold, the engine turned very slowly when I first turned the key. I turned the engine over a few times and then asked a friend for a jump. Once I hooked up the jumper cables, the engine turned over fine, but it was already flooded. I do not think it takes much to flood one of these cars. Just a few turns of the key!
Good luck,
Jeff
