I put the head back on my 93 Convertible, seemed to get all the timing marks correct. Flywheel is at 0º, cam marks line up, marks on sprockets are perpendicular to head. Before I took the chain off, I marked the exact links that line up with the sprocket marks with wire ties, so I would not be off by a tooth.
The chain bound up a little, so I had to move the flywheel a little. I thought I had moved it about 45º before I abandoned the project for the night.
Next day, I get chain unbound and see flywheel mark is at 0º, cams & sprockets all lined up. Following Townsend's advice, I attempt to turn the engine to 30º, then 2 revolutions, but I meet with resistencetrying to turn in either direction. Not wanting to bend any valves, I now ask the board.
Could my flywheel actually be off by a full revolution? All marks line up
Can the chain bypass the lower sprocket by more than 1 link at a time?
Could this resistence be because everything was cleaned out and now has no lubrication until start-up?
Does it matter which revoultion the crank is, in relation to the cams,as long as #1 piston is at TDC?
