A couple items to consider
1. Check the transmission oil. If old and sludgy, a change could help your problem. Even if it looks OK, if it hasn't been changed in the past year or two, a change would be good. The manual recommends 10-30 motor oil, but I've had good luck with 20-50 Mobil 1 even in the Colorado winter. Townsend Imports recommends 20-50 Amsoil racing oil if I remember correctly.
2. If the transmision commonly grinds going into reverse, the clutch shaft bearing could be shot and cool temperatures could be making it worse. If so, the result is the same as a clutch that isn't disengaging fully because the binding bearing forces the clutch shaft to continue to turn. The bearing is a $5 part, but you've got to pull the clutch to replace it.
