Hello gentlemen:
I am a former 900T owner and I am itching to get back in the fold. For the last few weeks I have been scouring every resource that I know of in search of a decent, reasonably priced 900 SPG. I missed out on a nice '89 last week by just one day!
Well a few days ago I found an '87 at ebay motors.... I was intersested as it is a Florida car (where I am) which means easy pick up for me, and most of all no real rust concerns. I don't however have time to travel to view the car before the auction ends this Thursday, so I contacted the seller with some basic question that I thought were valid.. like "Is it a smoker's car?", and "Please describe the overall condition of the paint, any door dings, scratches, etc." and a few other simple questions. Well, this is what I got in reply:
"There is no signs of smoking at all, smells good, looks good.
All I know the previous owner smokes , that is it.
There was big hole in sunroof's upholstery so I removed it - it looks pretty cool - off black,( I had idea to remove even everything but gave up that idea).
Due to sun exposure there are some cracks on dashboard.
Driver's door upholstery is worn a bit.
I do beleive true value is engine, transmission and turbocharger (Before I bought the car I disconnected Boost control valve - The car flies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. There is no smoke , noise , oil consumption at all. I used to work in Volvo dealership for 5 years, belive me I would not buy a "lemon".
The only and true reason I'm selling the car is I can not afford to keep two cars.I'm going to buy a Volvo 240 Turbo' 84(Station Wagon) with 150k.
I've owned it for 2 months but it took me 3 months to buy it. Previous and first owner didn't want to sell it!!. And now I found a Volvo.
The body panels are in perfect shape - Right front (passenger side is not original(SPG) - its from turbo edition. But fender, hood no signs of any damage. My guess - small dog or cat could made this damage.
As to dents and scratches, none, maybe one very, very, very small on drivers door - to be honest I don't care. My choice is to drive cars not to look at.
Both doors are scratched a bit on it's edge and sunroof but the car was made in 1987 so in my opinion true value is :
1.Body very, very good no rust at all ,
2. mechanical very, very good,
3. Suspension - very , very good _ (KYB shocks)
4.Exhaust system -cat. back was replaced few years ago (OEM product)_
5.Cargo space cover is missing.
6.Windows are tinted -yellow-gold -looks cool with grey paint.
I used to race rally cars -Mitsubishi EVO VI and Subaru WRX STI in Europe for 4 years so I think I have more or less idea how a car should run.
If you want perfect looking, shiny, car - buy a new one.
This is enthusiast drivers 's car. It is very strong made, in US models compression pressure is lower 7.2 :1 (U.K. 8.7:1). so engine got less stress -that's why this engines and turbos last so long . Just change oil every 3000 miles , do not increase boost more than 15 psi (boost is stock -no mods at all so far ;) )
I hate stories, dreamers or tire kickers - good luck!!!!."
OK, by the guys name, I'm guessing he IS European, and maybe English isn't his first language, but doesn't this seem pretty RUDE? And what's with disconnecting the Boost Control valve.... that can't be good, can it?
Well, I can pick up this car for under $2000.... and it's close to home. I was all set to bid on it but now I'm not so sure. It DOES sound as though it's in great shape, but I'm a bit leery of this guy's attitude.
Comments? Should I "Run Away!"? :)
thanks in advance for your help/replies.
