I assume that the transmission oil need to be drained for me to "pull the side covers"? Ah hell - I'll probably just pull the whole thing. I think I need to replace all the engine oil seals anyway. How decent of a reference is the Bentley manual? It looks slim on this subject to me.
Regarding lube failure, previous owner had 10W30 in the case, which I topped off this witer with plain old quaker state. The oil I put in said it had detergents in it - maybe that was part of my problem? Then again I was trying to teach my wife how to drive stick in the car - maybe that was part of the problem too.
So if the junkyard box is from an S I don't have to worry so much? I suppose junkyard boxes newer than 88 are preferable? post 90 especially so (with improved pinion bearing?)
