The red box is just a tweaked black box APC in a red box. Many on this board have either turned up the potentiometers or soldered in a couple of resistors to give even higher boost performance than a stock red box. Red box potentiometers are basically the same and can be turned up, too.
If you insist on running regular, retard the base timing to about 14 degrees BTDC versus stock of 16BTDC. This will reduce knock that will occur even before the knock sensor comes into play. The knock sensor works only to reduce boost when knock is detected. Under boost, the engine will still be protected, but you might be annoyed by more intrusive boost cuts.
After you have set the timing back, you can run regular to your heart's content, but you should recognize that you might not be saving as much at the pump as you think. Your car will probably now get less MPG, because it is running less effiently and will require more right foot to maintain performance. Personnally, have only retarded the spark as described to accomodate an accidental tank of regular.
