The APC simply reduces the knock, via a knock sensor in the head, that may be caused by lower octane fuels. It essentially allows you to use whatever grade you want. Yes, if you want to use 87 octoane you can and provided your APC system is working correctly you will experience little to no knocking. However, your boost will be noticably less. I typically use higher octane gas because there is a noticable difference in performance, but if it makes no difference to you than go ahead and put in a lower grade. However, I would recommend giving your turbo a treat now and then with a tank full of 93/94 octane.
