Turbos are relatively cheap if you're billing a K/hour in terms of sitting there and letting it cool down. Of course if you're in that income bracket you probably would be driving a twin turbo something or other.
I've never bothered to idle cool my turbos when using synthetic oil....with the exception of coming off the interstate to a gas station....you either keep the car running (with the AC on to ensure the fans are running) or idle it for a couple minutes over by the donut shop, go into the shop and buy a few bavarian cream pies (yummo, goes with the mirror sunglasses well!) and then go gas and go. I guess you could idle cool it in the gas line but if you get right to the pump it's a little rude to idle cool the turbo before filling up if there's people behind you.
OTOH, you could always pull up to the pump and stall for a few minutes while the car is idling...check the transmission oil on an automatic or clean the windows, etc., etc.
Besides, if you hash your turbo you get to go out and buy a K04 or another hybrid turbo, pick your own A/R ratio yada yada yada.
