Auto Tranny -Shifting High Revs from 2nd to 3rd...

I recently got into a fight with forest of trees in my 900T. Needless to say I was taught a lesson and my car is in pretty poor shape after our little arboreal brawl...
I found a Saab 900.. Standard with no sunroof but - oh well. The car is in really nice condition but it's an automatic. The transmission was recently rebuilt by the original owner. It shifts into 3rd or so at about 50 mph says the owner. ( I have not had a chance to drive the car yet.)
What I'm planning on doing is swapping my turbo engine etc. into this nice little 900. It would be just nice to have something to drive (granted it's an automatic =( ) until that time comes that I can do the swap.
Considering the transmission was just recently rebuilt in the 900 - why would it be shifting into 3rd so high? Is there an adjustment that needs to be made? I have read that this is common in auto trannies that are about to bite the dust. Considering this is freshly rebuilt - what's the deal?
Thanks in advance for all the help. I'm probably going to buy the car just so I can do the turbo swap. I just want to know what I should expect from this car. It's priced at 800 dollars and is in really nice condition.
