I have owned 2 normally aspirated auto trans 900s. One a 1984 8v and the other a 1990 16v. Both trannies shifted from 2nd to 3rd at fairly high speed, say 40 to 45 mph, that is given that you are not pushing hard on the gas. If you do put your foot down hard on the gas you can expect the car to shift from 2 to 3 somewhere between 45 to 55 mph. I also owned a 1974 BMW Bavaria with a similar Borg-Warner auto tranny. It too shifted from 2 to 3 at higher speeds. It seems to be the way these trannies were designed. BTW, all three cars had well over 100,000 miles with the original tranny without any problems. Did change tranny fluid on a regular basis.
