I am now an expert on what NOT to do. For now I won't name names. I bought some from a Saabnet sponser with a one year warrenty. After about one year and a few weeks one of them locked up. I called the company that sold them to me and tried to plead my case and cut me a break since I was just a few weeks out of warrenty. They told me to pack sand.
I figured if the oned from a "good" place that specialize in Saabs turn out to be no good I might as well get cheap ones from a chain. The chain ones have a life time warrenty. When I put of them on the car, it would not bleed. I took it off and discovered that the line in was completely blocked. Of course I had to bolt back on the one I took off, re-bleed the caliper in order to go back to the store and order another one.
Well both of them from the chain lasted less than six months. I ordered two new ones from the chain (should be covered by warrenty). When I got the new ones, on one the guides were COMPLETELY gone. The other was shipped unassembled and the spring was not the correct spring plus the boots looked very shakey. Of course I did not notice the guide were gone until I took the old one off and was about to bolt on the new one. Again I had to stick a defective part back on the car and rebleed. When the chain one failed it took out a rotor and a set of pads as collateral damage.
I have completely given up on the chain ones. I am tired of the inconvience of my brakes locking up and the frequent caliper changes. I will say that the chain promised to make good on the warrenty and will refund everything I have purchased so far. I have not been able to confirm this so far.
So what to do now? Good question. I have talked to the Sob Story guy (Jim I think) and he understands the problem with caliper precisely. The shipping is not too bad (although you have to pay it twice when you ship your cores back). New from Saab are more or less not available. Rebuilt from Saab are 2X the cost of rebuilt from Sob Story. I do not know if the Saab rebuilts are any better than the Sob Story rebuilts. I am now leaning towards going with Sob Story, I think Jim will stand behind his product.
Hope this long winded reply helps.
