Biggest problem with Saab transmissions is the heat issue. Because it is dirctly under the engine, excess engine heat is absorrbed into the transmission. In some ways , like service , this design can be considered good, but not real practical in operation.
You may consider some of the synthetic oil alternatives that many on the board have used, as these are more resistatnt to thermal breakdown. Although Saab recommends 10W30 motor oil, many on the boaard use different items, including Amsoil 20W50 motor oil, Redline MTL ( manual transmission lube) and Honda's lubricant ( I think it is also called MTL, may be semi-synthetic). I will not recommend either particular lubricant, because it usually starts a lot of quibbling on this board, but it seems that any of these should be an improvement over standard 10W30
P.S.) for all the arguing over motor oils & trans oils, I do not recall anyone using Mobil 1 in their transmission. Does anyone out there used it with good results?
