Hey,
I'm gonna post even though I found this a day late!

My folks bought an '84 900S in fall of 1995. Dad brought it home for Mom to "inspect" as we needed another car and he saw it come in as a trade in the Dodge dealer where he was working then. He got it because it was only $600 and because my Mom and myself raved over the roomy interior, build quality, safety, wonderful seats, the unique look of the car, the SAAB mystique, the fact that it wasn't a wagon or minivan, and more. I fell in love with the long lines of the 3-door body style, all that elbow room beneath the hood, the handling of the S package, the fuel economy, winter traction ability, the manual sunroof, and the fact that power mirrors, windows, and door locks were on THIS OLD of a car! For $600!

When that 900 got crashed into (totalled, but no one hurt--see my posts from Sept./Oct. 2000 for details), I couldn't bring myself (it was MY car by then) to sell it or scrap it. It sat in the backyard with busted A-arm and fenders, looking sad and forlorn. Every now and then, I would go out backyard where it sat and start it up to "keep the engine up," cycling the A/C to keep the seals lubed, and thinking about how I wish it could be fixed. (Sigh.)

I was SAAB-less for over a year until I found a one-owner '84S with original engine, tranny, paint, good interior, all for only $1,200. Had it and has been daily driver with some expected repairs since Nov. 2001.

When my Mom's badly-aged '84 Corolla bit the dust last year, we found a steal of a '90 900 base 3-door for her for $800!!! And early this spring I got a running parts car/project car for $100 to tinker with ('89 900S 3-dr.)!!!!

No one here in rural N.C. seems to know the value and understand (or care about) the alluring qualities of SAABs...which makes them easy to buy up!

My daily driver will turn 20 within a few months and I can't imagine myself in any other (brand) of car. Hmmm. Maybe I need buy Turbo to go with these other 900s...
