Hi

Just been reading some of the posts and i have never been near this site before....had my 900 turbo automatic convert for about 3 years now and eventually hope to fully restore "Helga" to pristine show car condition with a couple of small mods including fitting a wood veneer dash/instrument binnacle set-up...anyway, enough of the dreaming...my auto gearbox is rooted and she just wont go...been locked in a garage for about 15 months now and just getting around to being able to afford to get the gearbox fixed...
My options in WA...the far west coast of Australia...are very limited...
$5000 from a dealer (who would probably subcontract it to company below) 6 months warranty
$3000 (inc new timing chain) from reasonably reputable saab-trained company (but not a dealer) 6 months warranty
$1200 plus timing chain from european parts specialist who will recondition one probably from a scrapped engine bought from the east coast of Australia some 5000kms away with 3 months warranty (but my sometimes useful brother works for this company)
$0 Continue looking at the blue sky from the crowded seats on the bus
The dollar factor may tip the scale but what should i look out for and maybe what should i get done at the same time? The car has done around 180,000kms (120, 000 miles) and is in great condition but i worry like hell (with no evidence other than the mileage) about the engine and turbo…
Really appreciate any comments you could send my way…
