First, thank you all for your kindness in supplying me with suggestions, guidance, and the terminology with which to speak with the mechanics.

Here's my update and my question...

They replaced the O2 sensor ($250!), but the symptoms (poor performance all around and very, very difficult start-up...i.e. constant stalling, which has never occurred before now, and the check engine light remains on) all remain as they were prior to changing the O2 sensor.

Now they are saying they don't know what else to do. And we are left with a car which stalls several times on start-up, and is not performing as it was prior to the new motor mounts being installed by these folks.

They told us, by the way, that there is no way THEY could have contaminated or injured the old O2 sensor, because they replaced the REAR motor mounts, not the front ones, and they insist that there is nothing in the process of changing the rear motor mounts which would have contributed to causing the O2 sensor to go bad. They are now saying that they will put our old O2 sensor back in, unless we want to pay for the new one. (This, after THEIR computer diagnosed a bad O2 sensor???)

I'm stumped and frustrated.

I want to thank you all again for your help, especially the very king gentleman who sent a photo of the coolant bleed screw and bleed process, complete with labeling. What a wonderful thing you did for us.

I will try to do just that and see what happens. Perhaps it will help, though they did say that they bled the coolant.

So now I've got the "check engine" light still on, constant stalling on start-up, and a very low idle.

Anymore thoughts?

What a wonderful place this is...a wealth of information. Thank you again.

Julia
