9.5 for base boost is way too high. Since the APC solenoid clicks when you plug the box in, the APC box is getting power and controls the solenoid like it should when you power up.

The APC solenoid clicking at random, like you describe in your response to my last post, can mean one of a few things - pressure transducer has a worn spot on the windings, bad knock sensor, bad knock sensor cable and/or connector.

If you crank up the base boost so far that the APC can't kick it back any further to protect the engine (like you've done), the APC box kind of a black plastic brick with wires runing to it.

Before you go into tuning-for-performance mode, you may want to turn base boost back to the factory-recommended settings and track down the real problem. Then you'll know what the car can really do *and* when you do tuning-for-performance, the APC box will have the proper safeguards (like a working knock sensor) to keep you from melting piston crowns.

Off the line, C900Ts generally aren't something to write Road and Track about. At highway speeds, they are.

Since you're a SAAB newbie, you probably don't know about the infamous C900 transmission. The transmission is the weak point in the car. It was only designed for 100ish Hp. And a stock '87 900T puts out around 165 Hp. The more power you feed the transmission, the more the pinion bearing is going to be beaten on - when that starts to go, it can wreak all sorts of havoc to transmission internals over the long term. There are rebuilds and enhancements around, but everything costs money.

Here's a link to a Volvo page that shows a burned piston from detonation. Hopefully the pictures will be there when you go to it. And if they aren't there, the text should give you something to think about.
