What little knob on the flywheel? I believe the flywheel has timing marks for zero as well as +10, +20 ect..
I know this will not help you. Sorry, but maybe it will help someone else. This trick works well with the Saab 2.0 liter.
I advise my customers (yes I sell Saab parts and, yes, I have done this job myself) to wire tie the chain to the cam sprockets before they take it apart. Then, drop the sprockets down into the engine before head removal.
When you get the head back simply fish out the sprockets and install on the cams. Works best whith the engin NOT at top dead center. This way you can turn the cams in order to match up with the sprockets.
