Good question on the part number Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: We'll try this again ..., Mitja Jaksa, Fri, 29 Aug 2003 05:56:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I don't have my parts book handy, so I can't give you a good answer on the shifter box until I get home. The linkage rod is rewelded?!?! I wonder if the previous owner cobbled in a pre '85 shifter box.
Take a look at the front of the shifter box. Are there springs for centering the shifter in the front of the box? If there are, it's a box from a model earlier than mid 1986. Centering will need to be adjusted per the earlier spec.
Once you determine which type of shifter box is installed, you may want to adjust the shifter per the procedure on the townsend Imports site, when it comes back to life.
It's also possible that the return spring for the reverse lockout in the shifter box has borken and that's what's causing the problem shifting into reverse - especially if it looks like someone had been messing with the box.
