A few things,
First of all, 3.1 qt is for a dry tranny. You never put that much in when changing it. The primary chain case doesn't drain completely.
I doubt if you'll find that copper sealing washer in a hardware store. I've even had indies try to tell me it didn't exist. EEuroparts carries them, about a buck. I have never replaced mine as of yet, no problems getting it to seal.
And the shavings on the magnet. I don't like seeing things like this either, but the only times i can drain the tranny and not see some, is when it's only been run for a few hundred miles on it's oil.
I have a feeling that MTL's ability to hold particles in suspension is one of the reasons people are scared of it in old transmissions. Our tranny needs a filter/cooler circulatory system.
The issue of over-fill is frothing. The gears are only supposed to be so-deep in the oil.
