Sudden death at 65mph: fuel pump?

Hi all,
I have an 87 900s that just turned 100k. We had major troubles with stalling a few months ago, solved by replacing the fuel pump and ECU relays.
Now tonight I put in some gas and took off on the freeway. About 3 minutes into the trip, it dies. I leave it in gear, coasting down, and simply recycle the ignition, on the 2nd try, the engine starts running. (By this time we're down to 40mph and what, 1500 rpm in 5th?)
30 minutes later, same thing, just plain old dies. THough now, no such luck. I try jumpering the fuel pump relay, and then the ECU relay too. (I disconnect the ground each time to make these changes, so the car comes up with the jumpers in place.)
What I'm getting is a crank-brief start then dies. No throttle response during the 3 seconds or so of running. Just a rrrr-vroom-dies.
Battery's happy, starter's happy. I'd think I have spark since it does briefly run. Should I try a fuel pump? Mass air-flow sensor? Crank anlge sensor? (Does the 87 even have one?) I have an old spark-amplifier, can try that.
Thanks as always to all for reading and your thoughts,
Ben
