Things about saabs that I've noticed: Unless you are in a Saab friendly environment (Northeast, Colorado, Northwest, possibly other areas that I'm not sure of, but definitely not the Southeast) it is hard to find shops willing to work on the car, or they charge a fortune.
Lots of stuff is easy for a DIYer and parts from online retailers are relatively cheap and plentiful, however this is of no consolation on a dark night in the middle of nowhere.
Transmissions are prone to early failure and don't like to be abused. Steering racks are something to watch as well. @ 160 k miles you may want to have the shocks and ball joints replaced. Mine checked out fine, but after replacing them (anal retentive saab maint.) I realized that they were all worn out and the car drives great now.
Good luck,
kevin
