More HELP on tranny

Today I have started pulling out the engine. Tomorrow is the D-day.
I have got two more questions regarding engine/tranny removal/.
Can I loosen the harmonic balancer bolt when the engine is out? It's probably very tightened I guess it could be near impossible with the engine jumping around.
The second thing is I need some advices how to "practically" remove the tranny when the engine is out. Do I just let the whole assembly hang on from the pulley or what? What do you in these cases (blown trannys are not rare:))
I need expert advice asap so I can painlessly work on. Thanks everyone for support!!!
