Yes, you can. Take a screwdriver and stick it in the front cover behind the flywheel and position it to stop the flywheel from turning. Put your socket (27 or 30 mm. --not sure whcih year car you have) and put racket on socket. I use a hammer to hit the racket to loosen the bolt. That does the trick for me.
Transmission removal--loosen all the bolts that secures the engine block to the transmission. Make sure all of them are out. There is one on the back near the harmonic balancer with a nut. Using a suitable hoist--hoist the engine from the tramsmission.
