'88-'93, '94 for conv. '89 and up got stronger pinion but there is a kit for '88 to make it stronger than the later OEM pinions. '89 had some ECU trouble but is easily switched out. ABS and SRS Airbags started in '90 which is more to repair but I think you could just disconnect that stuff when it broke. '88 had the failure prone auto seat belts but these can be locked down or switched out.
Juat find the best taken care of and lowest mile '88-'93, '94 for conv C900 5-speed that you can find. I would only go for the turbo for more fun and tweaking. The auto can be failure prone and your gas mileage is worse with them.
