Safety coolant plug on engine block?

Hi! The car in question is a 1987 turbo 8-valve with Bosch CIS-injection, and 175000 miles on its back.
I've just diagnosed a massive coolant leak from the engine. Under the exhaust manifold, in line with cylinder number three there is a "blind plug" apparently made of brass, that has now partly ruptured allowing coolant to leave the system (in a cloud of steam). The plug is approximately an inch in diameter, whose function at my best guess is as follows: To allow excess pressure, for example due to freezing, to be released from the block rather than cracking it. Its appearance is perfectly flat, and I couldn't feel any threads in the block for unscrewing it.
Obviously, I now need to replace the plug. Has anyone performed the procedure of removing the old one? How is the new one attached properly? Also, as I'm now parked on the street, I really want to drive somewhere better suited for jacking it up, as I don't believe the problem kan be fixed from the top side of the engine. Can any emergency remedies be used, such as two-component glue? The distance would only be a couple of kilometres.
All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Best regards,
Jimmy Schmincke
