This is one of the jobs where it might be better to leave it to a Saab shop.
The regular rate to replace both freeze plugs is 1 hour labor plus the price of two freeze plugs.
With the right special tools and a car hoist it's not that difficult.
The special tools is a 1 1/2 foot long curved rod (made of hardened steel) with a rotating disc on the end. You place the cupped freeze plug on top of that disc and drive the freeze plug in with a sledge hammer.
Without that tool it could be difficult to get in and up there with a hammer to drive the freeze plug in.
To get the old freeze plugs out I use a long prybar and knock/tilt them sideways into the engine and after that get a grip on them with a wisegrip plier and pry them out. It's not possible to loose them inside the engine.
When freeze plugs have rusted through it could also be a good idea to remove the block heater housing and clean out the rust there too.
That is an additional operation though that takes about 1/2 hour to an hour.
