Thoughts? I think you need a new mechanic.
An alternator should spin smoothly and quietly. Any vibration is abnormal. This is probably nothing more than worn-out bushings. I haven't had to do this myself, but it seems to be a non-technical DIY replacement,if a bit of a PITA knuckle-buster. Apparently, the hot tip is to remove both belts and flop the Alt. towards the fender to improve access.
Was the replacement alternator new/rebuilt or old/used? If it is a high mileage unit the brushes may be short and the vibration could bounce them off the slip rings and cause a low charge rate.
Or,if the Alt is new, the heavy Copper POSITIVE cable may have work-hardened and fractured just like the small wire. But, it may have a few stands still intact, and seem to be well connected but unable to carry enough amperage to charge the battery in a reasonable time.
